Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s history is conflicted, with the early 1600s seeing it heavily disputed among the Dutch, English, and Swedes. It was later where many key Revolutionary War battles took place, including Gettysburg and Valley Forge. The state was where the U.S. Federal Government seat was (before the U.S. was even fully formed) and the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Aside from its rich historical significance, Pennsylvania contains the first U.S. oil well. Its iron ore and coal mines boosted the steel industry, enabling the railroad expansion. Modern-day Pennsylvania does well with its agricultural production, including cattle, dairy, corn, potatoes, and Christmas trees. Small business owners looking to break into the larger East Coast cities would do well to be based in Pennsylvania.
