Hi!

I am interested in getting a single-line tattoo on my leg. Something like the cat here: https://www.xotly.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Single-Line-Tattoo.jpg

So my question is:
Do you guys specialize in these kind of tattoos?

And how much does it cost to get a tattoo like that?
Size – 3×3 inches

Is it possible to get colors in the tattoo, like in the example?

Happy to hear back from you guys,
Drew

I also have some other questions, so feel free to answer those:
1. What ingredients in the ink you’d use for the colors in the tattoo?
2. Does color ink causes an itchy rash? I have kinda sensitive skin.
3. Can you perform a patch test?
4. Are you a licensed tattoo artist?
5. In case you did some single-line tattoos, can you share some examples?

Thanks!

Email Response

I charge $150/hour for all tattoo work. I will be up front and say that most watercolor tattoos, as in your example, look good the day they are done and look pretty bad within 6-12 months. IG and the internet are full of “great” examples of these tattoos, but unless you have one of the very few artists who truly know how to pack color in a watercolor way (there are maybe 3 in the US), you will be disappointed. I do not take watercolor tattoo projects for this reason. My color work tends to be much more naturalistic and subtle, and occasionally I will do a full-color bird or similar.

For your other questions:

1. My inks are either willow charcoal in alcohol (blacks and greys) or vegan whole pigments in water suspension (colors). I use Silverback Ink for all my blacks and greys– you can look up their OSHA ingredient list online. I use Eternal Ink and World Famous Ink for my colors– same deal with OSHA ingredient list online 🙂 My white is Dynamic Ink White 00.
2. I have never had color ink cause a rash. For sensitive skin I don’t use the aftercare bandage that I typically apply, and I’ve never had anyone get a reaction just from the ink. I usually trust the person to work with me to figure out the right combination of soap and moisturizer if they have sensitive skin so that we get good healing without irritation.
3. I can perform a patch test, but unless you are okay with an actually tattooed dot, it won’t tell you anything to just put the ink on your skin.
4. There is no such thing as a licensed tattoo artist in CO. Each state and country has different requirements for what you need to be a tattoo artist. In CO all you need is a bloodborne pathogen certificate, which I have. I also completed an apprenticeship and worked at a shop prior to opening my own space.
5. Examples of my work can be found on my social media and website.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Best,
Cei

Additional Information

If you watch my social media or website you’ll see the announcement of when books open! The way I work is that prospective clients fill out a form with the details for their tattoo idea, and if I choose to take their project I then send booking information. I typically book out for 3-4 months, then close my books until the next round. If you would like a tattoo with me, go ahead and look for the announcement that books are open and fill out the form.

Email Response

Hey Drew!

We would have to chat more about the water color aspect of the second tattoo, as things that essentially don’t have black outlining it are going to age quicker and blow out more over time. That is something you and Mikal could chat about during a consultation.

As far as pricing goes, Mikal charges an hourly rate of $150 per hour. We would have you come in for a consultation to talk about your ideas, and Mikal would be able to give you a more accurate quote at that time.

We can do a patch test for you if you’d like, but to our knowledge we aren’t able to get ingredient lists for the ink.

For licensing, Colorado does not have licenses for tattooers, so that isn’t something we’re able to do unfortunately.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if I missed anything!

Thanks,
Sophia
