Hi!
I am interested in getting a single-line tattoo on my leg. Something like the cat here: https://www.xotly.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Single-Line-Tattoo.jpg
So my question is:
Do you guys specialize in these kind of tattoos?
And how much does it cost to get a tattoo like that?
Size – 3×3 inches
Is it possible to get colors in the tattoo, like in the example?
Happy to hear back from you guys,
Drew
I also have some other questions, so feel free to answer those:
1. What ingredients in the ink you’d use for the colors in the tattoo?
2. Does color ink causes an itchy rash? I have kinda sensitive skin.
3. Can you perform a patch test?
4. Are you a licensed tattoo artist?
5. In case you did some single-line tattoos, can you share some examples?
Thanks!

Hi Drew,
My name is Sage, and I’m one of the managers here at Urban Art Tattoo.
Generally speaking, tattoos like these don’t require any type of specialization, per se. They are entirely reliant on fundamentals of tattooing, namely clean linework, and in the example of the cat, color theory. Single line tattoos like these are becoming very popular, and my artists here have done several now.
It’s very difficult to quote the price for any tattoo via email simply because of how many variables go into the price of the tattoo. The very best way to get an accurate quote for a tattoo would be to swing by the shop and speak with an artist personally. They’ll get a solid idea of the design, as well as the size and placement of the tattoo relative to your body, which will give them a good idea of the time frame to complete the piece. My artists’ hourly prices range from $120 to $200 per hour, so the price of the tattoo may vary even by the artists who is doing it.
As for your other questions:
1. Tattoo ink is composed of two main ingredients: a liquid carrier (such as glycerin, witch hazel, water, and isopropyl alcohol), and the pigment agent (typically derived from minerals or plant materials).
2. No, there is no fundamental difference in the composition of black ink versus color ink, aside from the pigment used to achieve the color. In general, skin reactions to ink are exceedingly rare, and more often than not rashes or other adverse reactions are the result of aftercare products. So long as you have a high quality unscented white lotion that works with your skin, you’ll be able to heal the tattoo with no issue, rash free!
3. Patch tests aren’t typically something that we do. All of our equipment is single use, so if you would like to try a patch test before committing to the rest of the tattoo, we would have to charge you the shop minimum ($100) for the cost of the materials to set up for that patch test. We are definitely open to that option if you would like to do that.
4. All of our artists are licensed in Bloodborne Pathogens competencies. Arizona does not have an official licensing for tattoo artists, but the owner of our shop, Sage O’Connell Sr., led the fight for legislation to require licensing some years ago, which unfortunately failed to pass into law.
5. I did a quick search in our online portfolios for linework tattoos like the ones you sent, but I didn’t see any showcased on our website despite some coming through in recent memory. Feel free to peruse their portfolios here, keeping in mind the fundamentals such as quality of the lines, and the brightness of the color work, which will translate into the design of your linework tattoo.
I hope this answers all of your questions! Feel free to send any additional questions over if they do come up.
If you’d like to set up a formal consultation to speak to an artist personally and in detail about the tattoo, just let me know which artist you’re thinking about and we can get the appointment scheduled.
Hope to speak again soon!
